A Letter from the CEO Celebrating 20 Years
Jan 06 2023

To our clients, friends and partners,

Happy New Year to all!  As we ring in the new year, it is with great humility and gratitude that I share an important milestone with all of you: 2023 marks Kovitz's 20th anniversary. In the Fall of 2003, a small team of eleven of us, managing $350 million in client assets, spun out of Rothschild Investment Corporation to form Kovitz. From the outset, we had one goal in mind: strive to serve as a trusted partner to each of our clients, helping them meet their financial goals with prudent investment selection and comprehensive retirement and estate planning, and to deliver this service through a professional staff committed to excellence and operating with the highest of integrity.

Fast forward to today and Kovitz is a 95-person firm managing and advising on $6.8 billion of client assets across 12 asset offerings and providing financial planning and retirement services across a client base of more than 2,000 families. Our team holds more than 50 professional designations including, but not limited to, 19 Certified Financial Planner Professionals (CFP®), 13 CFA® charterholders, 12 Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), and 29 advanced collegiate degrees.

While our investment teams prudently deploy client capital, our wealth management and financial planning teams ensure our clients’ financial plans are well-designed, executed, and followed through good markets and bad. It is our belief that this seamless marriage between those forming the financial plan and those investing the capital, all housed under one roof, is the single biggest factor in our clients’ success. It is also why we can proudly assert that more than 90% of the investable capital of the firm’s Investment Team members is invested in our internally managed strategies, side-by-side with our clients.

As you can imagine, none of these accomplishments are possible without the help of others, and it is important to acknowledge those who supported us along the way. First and foremost, we thank our clients, who entrusted us to manage their capital and advise them on all the varied and complex ways life and money intersect. Every action we take at Kovitz is with our clients’ best interests in mind. Giving sound, consistent advice is the heart of the firm and the basis for our mutually beneficial relationship. Not far behind, we thank our spectacular partners and staff who believe in our mission and are relentless in its pursuit. Without them, the Kovitz train would never have left the station. We would also like to express gratitude for the people behind our people: the families and significant others who enable our people to devote great time and effort to our firm’s pursuits. Finally, we would like to thank all of the vendors and service providers who have helped our organization grow and evolve. We value your advice, services, and products and appreciate the role you continue to play in our success.

With many milestones achieved over the past 20 years, we feel we are just scratching the surface in terms of what we can do for our clients and accomplish as a firm. We value all of our relationships and look forward to our continued partnership for many years to come.

I wish you all a happy and lucrative New Year!

Mitchell A. Kovitz
